is derived from an evergreen shrub – Berberis aristata
– that’s native to the Himalayas but found in Britain and Australia. It goes by many names, including Indian Barberry, Tree Turmeric, and Nepal Berberis. Berberine is the bioactive alkaloid compound that’s present in the Berberis plant group.
